About Counselling & Psychotherapy

Counselling/psychotherapy offers a safe and confidential space to explore and work through a variety of personal issues. This normally takes place at a set time, once a week.

People usually come to counselling because they are experiencing some kind of difficulty or distress in their lives. This may be related to a work, family or relationship issue, or sometimes an event such as bereavement, divorce or redundancy. However, sometimes people can feel lost, anxious or depressed, and struggle to understand why they feel that way.

Some of the issues that counselling/psychotherapy can address, are:

Counselling can help an individual make sense of their difficulties, and might involve exploring past/present life events, relationships, feelings, ways of thinking and patterns of behaviour. Therapists can work in different ways, depending on their skills/training, but will usually help the individual to identify a course of action that feels right for them, either to help them resolve their difficulties or find ways of coping with them better. Eventually this can help the individual to feel more empowered and in control of their lives.
